Despite the recent housing and employment numbers, I haven't noticed an increase in the bread line. This is not to make light of the issues and concerns many Americans face. Politicians, the species which practically invented opportunism, will use the plight of the populi to further an agenda.
To this day, The Left uses an event which took place eight decades ago and hangs it around the neck of political opponents. To say that we are in the worst economy since the Great Depression is fear peddling worthy of the worst snake oil salesman. This allows for government cures for whatever ails ya. If not the worst economy, the worst housing market, if not that, the worst radio serial.
This is lazy, albeit, effective politics. In a world of iPods, HD, Home Depot (the other HD), SUVs, and food filled fat bellies, the worst anything since the Great Depression is not accurate. The Left's form of political Mad Libs scares citizens and keeps programs pumping pork into the American arteries.
If in 1940, the GOP turned to the Southern Democrats and cited that this is the worst injustice since the Civil War, it would not be taken seriously. Pious progressives push the past more than antique dealers on eBay. They just can't get over it. Every effort to move on calls to the gloomy grey ghosts of yesteryear.
The only reason we ever find ourselves in any situation resembling the Great Depression is the stagnant, static, socialist safety net The Left put up.
Unfortunately, the safety net was built with razor wire. It looks safe from up high, put it will rip you to shreds when you fall.
-Heroes don't die, they live within us.
